“Teetotaler’s Autobiography” Launched by Mangalore Bishop – A Tribute to 60 Years of Alcohol-Free Living
Mangaluru, July 12, 2025: The inspiring autobiography of senior journalist and multilingual writer Raymond D’Cunha Taccode, chronicling his 60-year journey as a teetotaler, was formally released by Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore, at a solemn event held in the city.
Calling the book a “truthful record of its era,” the Bishop lauded the author for offering society a powerful example of how one can lead a meaningful and disciplined life, free from intoxicants. “This autobiography not only highlights the personal struggles of resisting temptation but also shows how a journalist with roots in agriculture and business can use literature to influence and educate society,” he remarked.


The launch event commenced with good wishes from Albert D’Almeida, Manager of Padmashree Gas Agency, Moodbidri.
Addressing the gathering, Raymond D’Cunha shared a heartfelt reflection: “Writers don’t need to speak—our books do the talking. We are like coconut trees; no matter the obstacles, we keep growing skyward and never stop bearing fruit.”

The celebration began with a Holy Eucharist, presided over by Emeritus Bishop of Mangalore, Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, and con-celebrated by Fr. Gerald Lobo, Fr. Maxim Rosario, and Fr. Felix Montero.
Riana D’Cunha welcomed the dignitaries and compered the programme, while Elias Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.
