Inauguration of State-Level Certificate Course on Website Development for Scheduled Tribe Community at St. Agnes College
Mangaluru, January 5: St. Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, inaugurated a pioneering State-Level Certificate Course on Website Development (Without Coding) exclusively for the Scheduled Tribe community, marking a significant step towards inclusive digital empowerment.
The programme is jointly organised by the Department of Library and Information Centre and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college, and is sponsored by iHub – Data, IIIT Hyderabad. The initiative aims to enhance digital literacy and equip participants with future-ready technological skills, enabling them to actively participate in the digital economy.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Prof. Khaiser M. Khan (Retd.), Department of Library and Information Science, Mangalore University, as the Guest of Honour. In his address, he underscored the role of education in building a Digital India, highlighting the importance of social media platforms, information portals, and start-ups in advancing IT knowledge. He commended St. Agnes College for launching this forward-looking initiative and advised students to translate their learning into practical, employable skills.
The Chief Guest, Shri M. A. Gafoor, Chairman of the Karavali Development Board and Vice President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, emphasized the need for quality education for historically exploited communities. He stated that such programmes are crucial in empowering the Scheduled Tribe community to compete effectively in India’s rapidly evolving technological landscape.
The programme was presided over by Dr. Sr. M. Venissa A.C., Principal of St. Agnes College, who highlighted the growing influence of technology across all spheres of life. She stressed that technology, when used effectively, can create vast opportunities for success and reiterated the institution’s commitment to nurturing creativity, adaptability, digital competence, and academic excellence.
Dr. Gopakumar V, Resource Person from Digital University Kerala, extended his best wishes for the success of the certificate course and encouraged participants to make optimal use of the learning opportunity.
The event began with a warm welcome by Dr. Vishala B. K., Course Coordinator, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Vidya Patali, IQAC Secretary. The programme was efficiently compered by Dr. Sabeena D’Souza, IQAC Coordinator.
This initiative reflects St. Agnes College’s strong commitment to social responsibility and technological advancement, aligning with national efforts to promote digital literacy and inclusive education among marginalized communities.
