Jackfruit Festivals Should Promote Value Addition to Farmers’ Produce: Raymond D’Cunha Taccode
Farangipete: Senior Konkani litterateur Raymond D’Cunha Taccode emphasised that jackfruit festivals should go beyond being celebrations of agriculture and serve as platforms to promote value addition and better marketing opportunities for farmers’ produce.
Speaking after inaugurating the First Jackfruit Festival organised by Allan and Stany of Skyline at Sevanjali Hall, Farangipete, Raymond D’Cunha Taccode said that present-day jackfruit festivals have evolved into vibrant exhibitions showcasing not only jackfruit but also khadi products, traditional postnatal herbal medicines, indigenous food items such as Tambde Gule, and a variety of plant saplings.
He noted that such initiatives create valuable marketing avenues for farmers by enabling them to sell value-added agricultural products. Inaugurating the festival by cutting a jackfruit and serving its fruit bulbs to the dignitaries on the dais, he appreciated the organisers for promoting indigenous produce.
He further remarked that these festivals attract unique and traditional products, allowing the younger generation to experience and appreciate their taste and cultural significance.
Chief guest, anchor, and film actor VJ Dixon encouraged young people to actively participate in such festivals. He said that success does not come on its own but must be achieved through dedication, perseverance, and hard work.
During the programme, theatre artistes and donors were honoured for their contributions.
