Ladyhill School ICSE Promotes Safety Awareness Through ‘Safety First Abhiyan’
Mangaluru: With the vision of nurturing a culture of safety, responsibility, and preparedness among young learners, Ladyhill School ICSE organised the “Safety First Abhiyan” Awareness Program for students of Grades VIII and IX in the school hall. The programme was held under the theme “Prepare, Prevent, Protect – Prevention is Better Than Cure.”
The initiative aimed to equip students with essential knowledge and practical skills in fire safety, health safety, and disaster preparedness, thereby fostering awareness and encouraging responsible behaviour during emergencies.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome by Liyan Fernandes, who greeted the dignitaries, resource person, teachers, and students. In the introductory remarks, the importance of cultivating safety awareness and being prepared to respond effectively during emergencies was highlighted, setting the tone for an informative and engaging session.
The resource person, Mr. Sathyaraj, an experienced Fire and Safety Officer and professional freelancer from Mangaluru, conducted an insightful session on fire prevention, emergency preparedness, health and safety practices, and disaster management. Through real-life case studies, practical examples, and interactive discussions, he explained how timely action, presence of mind, and adherence to safety protocols can significantly reduce risks during emergencies.
Encouraging students to adopt a proactive approach towards safety, he emphasised that awareness, preparedness, and responsible action are the first steps in protecting lives and building a safer society.
One of the highlights of the programme was the live demonstration of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and fire safety techniques. The hands-on session enabled students to learn the correct procedures for administering CPR and responding effectively to fire-related emergencies. The resource person also demonstrated the proper use of safety equipment and stressed the importance of prompt action during critical situations.
Students actively participated in the demonstrations, gaining valuable practical knowledge and confidence in handling emergency situations. The interactive session reinforced the message that the right knowledge, combined with timely action, can save lives.
The programme was graced by Principal Sr. Therese Teena A.C., Administrator Sr. Ida Barboza A.C., and Vice Principal Tr. Lavita Correa, whose presence reflected the institution’s commitment to promoting a culture of safety and preparedness. They encouraged students to adopt safe practices, make informed decisions, and contribute towards building a secure and resilient society.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Gagan Poojari, who expressed gratitude to the resource person for sharing his expertise and thanked the Management, Principal, Administrator, staff members, and students for their wholehearted support and enthusiastic participation.
The “Safety First Abhiyan” proved to be a meaningful and enriching learning experience, equipping students with practical life-saving skills and a deeper understanding of fire safety, health protection, and disaster preparedness. By combining expert guidance with hands-on demonstrations, the programme inspired students to become more alert, responsible, and prepared to respond effectively during emergencies, reaffirming that awareness, preparedness, and timely action are the keys to safeguarding lives and building a safer community.
