Athena Institute of Health Sciences Celebrates Annual Sports Meet 2026
Mangaluru, February 13, 2026: The Annual Sports Meet 2026 of Athena Institute of Health Sciences (AIHS), Mangaluru, comprising the School and College of Nursing along with Allied Health Sciences, was celebrated with great enthusiasm and vibrant sportsmanship on February 13 at the Paduva Playground. The event aimed at promoting physical fitness, teamwork, unity, and a spirit of healthy competition among students.
The programme commenced with a grand march past by students of various classes, followed by the hoisting of the flag and the ceremonial lighting of the torch, symbolising the true spirit of sportsmanship.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Mrs. Gladys Pais, Retired Teacher and Asian Masters Athlete, as the Chief Guest. Dr. Ashith Shettian, Managing Trustee; Sr. Deepa Peter, Principal of School and College of Nursing; Dr. Nandini M., Principal of Allied Health Sciences; and Mrs. Sunitha Lobo, Vice Principal, were present on the dais.
Mrs. Gladys Pais officially declared the Sports Meet open by releasing balloons. In her address, she shared her personal experiences in sports and appreciated the efforts of the management and students in organising the event successfully. She emphasised the importance of sports in developing leadership qualities, discipline, and teamwork among students.
Dr. Ashith Shettian, in his presidential address, encouraged students to actively participate in sports alongside academics and congratulated them for fostering a spirit of healthy sportsmanship.
Sr. Deepa Peter, Principal of AIHS, highlighted that Sports Day is a celebration of discipline, courage, teamwork, perseverance, and the indomitable human spirit.
A variety of track and field events including 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m races, relay races, long jump, shot put, discus throw, and fun games were conducted. Students participated actively and displayed remarkable energy, coordination, and determination throughout the day. Faculty members also took part in special events, adding excitement and joy to the celebration.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where winners were awarded medals and certificates.
The programme was coordinated by the SNA Advisors Mrs. Viola Dsouza and Mrs. Priya Carnelio, along with Co-Advisors Mrs. Siji C.V., Mrs. Ancilla Reena Coelho, Mrs. Sharon D’Souza, and the Student Council of Allied Health Sciences.
