Mount Carmel Primary Students Celebrate Linguistic Heritage
Mangaluru: The Primary students of Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru, celebrated linguistic heritage with great cultural pride on the occasion of International Mother Language Day on February 21, 2026. The programme was creatively hosted by the students of Grade II A and II B.
The celebration commenced with a solemn prayer, followed by a graceful welcome dance. The students extended a warm welcome in different mother languages, beautifully reflecting India’s rich linguistic diversity. They also introduced the Chief Guest, Dr. Purushothama Chippar, Co-founder and Managing Director of Cognate Industrial Automation, Mangaluru.
Highlighting the significance of the day, the students eloquently emphasized the importance of respecting, preserving, and promoting one’s mother tongue, as it reflects identity, culture, and heritage. The young Carmelites confidently expressed themselves in English, Hindi, Konkani, Tulu, Kannada, and Malayalam, showcasing the vibrant linguistic fabric of the nation.
The programme was further enriched with colourful dance performances in Kannada, Tulu, Malayalam, Tamil, and Bengali. A lively Konkani group action song added joy and enthusiasm to the celebration.
In his inspiring address, the Chief Guest described the mother tongue as “the language of our heart.” He emphasized that one’s mother language forms the foundation of culture and tradition and plays a vital role in shaping values and identity.
The Administrator, Sr. Carissima, encouraged the students to take pride in speaking their mother tongue and to preserve and promote it for future generations.
The programme was confidently anchored by Dhrithi, Ragner, Diya, Noah, and Arav. The welcome address was delivered by Eion, Delvin, Lenora, Sheethal, Janvi, Adam, Ethan, Dhyan, and Shouya. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ananya, Alina, Sukruthi, Janvi, and Gavya.
The celebration concluded with a renewed pledge to cherish, preserve, and proudly promote one’s mother language for generations to come.
