Radiance of Creativity Lights Up Mount Carmel’s Diwali Competitions
Mangaluru: The festival of Diwali — a time when hearts glow with love and minds sparkle with creativity — was celebrated with immense enthusiasm at Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru. A series of Diwali-themed competitions were organized for students from Grade 1 to 10, reflecting their artistic flair and festive spirit.
The celebration began with the Grade 1 Diya-Making Competition, where the little Carmelites joyfully crafted colourful diyas using sequins, glitter, and decorative paper. Their radiant creations beautifully symbolized the spreading of light, love, and positivity.
Grade 2 students displayed their artistic touch in a Rangoli-on-Paper Competition. By skillfully joining dots and blending vibrant colours, they designed intricate patterns that reflected the cultural richness and vibrancy of Diwali.
Grade 3 students let their imagination shine through a Lantern-Making Competition, using colourful craft paper, ribbons, and sparkles to create dazzling lanterns that stood as beacons of hope and festivity.

The Gift-Wrapping Competition for Grades 4 and 5 showcased thoughtful creativity as students transformed simple boxes into delightful works of art. Their brightly wrapped gifts, adorned with bows and ribbons, captured the true joy of giving that defines Diwali.
Grades 6 and 7 participated in a Lantern Designing Competition, where they crafted radiant lanterns using coloured paper and decorative materials. Each lantern symbolized brightness, positivity, and the victory of light over darkness.
The Grade 8 students impressed everyone with their finesse in a Quilling Rangoli Competition. Their intricate, rolled-paper designs gave a contemporary twist to traditional Diwali art, blending patience with creativity.
Finally, the students of Grades 9 and 10 expressed their inner artistry through Diwali-themed Mandala Art. Their symmetrical and balanced designs beautifully portrayed the festival’s deeper message of harmony and inner illumination.
These vibrant and imaginative activities filled the Mount Carmel campus with festive joy and colour. Beyond nurturing artistic expression and fine motor skills, the celebrations inspired students to appreciate India’s rich cultural heritage and the timeless spirit of Diwali — the triumph of light, joy, and creativity.
