St Agnes College Big Data Analytics Students Attend Three-Day IoT Workshop at SJEC

Mangaluru, July 24: The AICTE IDEA Lab, in association with the Departments of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Vamanjoor, organised a three-day hands-on workshop on “Internet of Things (IoT)” for the postgraduate students of the Department of Big Data Analytics, St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, from July 22 to 24.

The workshop was convened by Dr. Vijay V. S., Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, while Ms. Supriya Salian, Assistant Professor, Department of CSE, and Ms. Madhavi Gatty, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE, served as coordinators. First- and second-year M.Sc. Big Data Analytics students actively participated in the programme.

The workshop provided participants with practical exposure to the fundamentals of the Internet of Things through hands-on sessions using Arduino IDE, NodeMCU, Raspberry Pi, and Adafruit platforms. Students gained experience in working with humidity and temperature sensors, as well as ultrasonic sensors, to develop object detection systems and LED-based warning mechanisms.

The programme also featured sessions on project ideation and prototype development, during which students worked in teams to design and build innovative IoT-based solutions. The workshop concluded with the evaluation of the prototypes, and the two best-performing teams were recognised and awarded prizes for their innovative projects.

The workshop equipped students with valuable practical skills in IoT technologies while encouraging innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving through experiential learning.
