St. Agnes College Organises Blood Donation Camp, Collects 110 Units
Mangaluru, July 22: The NSS, Youth Red Cross (YRC), and NCC Wings of St. Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, in association with Kasturba Medical College Blood Centre, Attavar, and the Rotary Club of Baikampady, organised a Blood Donation Camp on Wednesday at the A4 Hall, Avila Block of the college.
The programme commenced with a prayer, followed by a warm welcome. The event was compered by Ms. Saanvi, a second-year B.Sc. student.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Deepa Adiga from the Kasturba Medical College Blood Centre highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation, its life-saving impact, and the need to dispel common misconceptions surrounding blood donation. She encouraged students and staff to come forward and participate in this noble cause.
Principal Sr. Dr. M. Venissa A.C. appreciated the efforts of the NSS, YRC, and NCC Wings in organising the camp. Emphasising the importance of social responsibility, she encouraged students to actively engage in humanitarian initiatives that contribute to the welfare of society.
The programme was also graced by Mr. Kashyap Prabhu, President of the Rotary Club of Baikampady, who spoke about Rotary’s commitment to community service and its continued support for life-saving initiatives such as voluntary blood donation. Mr. Raj Shetty, Secretary of the Rotary Club of Baikampady, along with other Rotary members, was also present.
The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teaching faculty, and non-teaching staff. The medical team from Kasturba Medical College Blood Centre ensured that all medical screening procedures and safety protocols were meticulously followed throughout the camp.
A total of 110 units of blood were collected, reflecting the generous response and humanitarian spirit of the donors.
The programme was coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Udaya Kumar B. and Mrs. Preetha Tauro, NSS Programme Officers; Mrs. Nimitha K., YRC Programme Officer; and Associate NCC Officers Lt. Gayathri B. K. and Dr. Hithakshi. The active support of faculty members and dedicated student volunteers contributed significantly to the smooth conduct and success of the programme.
The Blood Donation Camp concluded on a meaningful note, reinforcing the message that every unit of blood donated has the potential to save lives. The initiative served as a powerful reminder of the importance of voluntary blood donation while strengthening the spirit of compassion, social responsibility, and community service among the students and staff.
