St Aloysius University Holds Students’ Council 2026–27 Investiture Ceremony

Mangaluru, July 20: St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, formally inducted its Students’ Council for the academic year 2026–27 during the Investiture Ceremony held at the L. F. Rasquinha Hall of the LCRI Block on Monday.

The ceremony was graced by Prof. Milos Lichner, SJ, Vice-Chancellor of Trnava University, Slovakia, as the Chief Guest. Rev. Fr. Brian Pereira, SJ, Rector of St Aloysius Institutions, presided over the programme. Also present on the dais were Rev. Dr. Praveen Martis, SJ, Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Ronald Nazareth, Registrar; Dr. Anup Denzil Veigas, Chairperson of the Students’ Council; Ms. Binni Chan, Assistant Chairperson; and the newly elected student leaders.

Congratulating the newly elected office-bearers, Prof. Milos Lichner spoke on the five essential principles of leadership, emphasizing that effective leadership is rooted in responsibility, integrity, vision, collaboration, and service.

In his address, Rev. Dr. Praveen Martis encouraged the student leaders to cultivate and strengthen the leadership qualities within themselves. “Leadership is the special quality that you have in yourselves. Develop good qualities to prove yourselves as good leaders,” he said. He urged the Council members to work closely with the faculty and actively promote student participation in the University’s academic, cultural, and social initiatives.

Presiding over the function, Rev. Fr. Brian Pereira reminded the students that leadership is not merely about holding office but about serving others with commitment. “Leadership is not a position; it is a passion. Be proud of where you come from and develop the power of empowerment. Being on the Council is not a privilege but a responsibility. Be a true leader and become a role model to others,” he said.

Rev. Dr. Praveen Martis administered the oath of office to Ms. Giselle Pearl Vas (II B.Tech.), President of the Students’ Council. She subsequently administered the oath to the other office-bearers, including Vice-President Jeevan D’Mello (II B.B.A.), Secretary Sathyaprasad G. Pai (II B.Sc.), Joint Secretary Rachel Maria Pais (II B.Sc.), Cultural Secretary Viveka M. S. Demelo E. Granjo (II B.Ed.), Sports Secretary Simone D’Souza (II B.Com.), Academic Affairs Secretary Piyush Shenoy (II LL.B.), Student Welfare Secretary Gratian Rovin Fernandes (II B.A.), Outreach and Social Responsibility Secretary Ajay Parkhe Dipak (II B.A.), Media, Communication and Public Relations Secretary Reon Vivian Veigas (II B.Voc.), Environment and Sustainability Secretary Zalifa Nassir (II BCA), along with the Class Representatives and Association Secretaries.

The Students’ Council Directory 2026–27 was also released by the dignitaries on the occasion.

Earlier, Dr. Anup Denzil Veigas welcomed the gathering, while Ms. Binni Chan introduced the Chief Guest. Ms. Giselle Pearl Vas, President of the Students’ Council, outlined the major initiatives and projects planned by the Council for the academic year. Jeevan D’Mello, Vice-President, proposed the vote of thanks.

The programme was efficiently compered by Verina, a B.Com. student.

The ceremony was attended by the Deans and Associate Deans of the University’s various Schools, including Dr. Manohar Serrao, Dr. Aruna Kalkur, Dr. Asha Abraham, Dr. Renita Maria D’Souza, Dr. Mamatha, Ms. Claret Vinaya Pereira, Dr. Loveena Lobo, Dr. Ruban S., Dr. Suchetha Vijayakumar, Dr. Racheal Natasha Mary, Dr. Melisa Goveas, Ms. Sharolin Menezes, Dr. Delna D. Lobo, Dr. Sneha Balaraj, faculty members, and students. The event marked the formal commencement of the Students’ Council’s leadership journey for the academic year 2026–27.
