Rosario Cathedral Organises Heart Health Awareness Talk and CPR Demonstration
Mangaluru, July 12: The Health Commission of Rosario Cathedral, under the guidance of the 21 Commissions of the Parish Pastoral Council, successfully organised a Heart Health Awareness Talk and CPR Demonstration titled “A Healthy Heart for a Blessed Life” at the Rosario Conference Hall on Sunday, 12 July 2026.
The programme witnessed an encouraging response from parishioners, including youth, adults, and senior citizens, who gathered to learn about heart health and the importance of timely medical intervention during cardiac emergencies.
The keynote session was delivered by Dr Shannon Fernandes, MBBS, MD, DNB, Associate Professor at Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru. She explained the causes and risk factors of heart disease, preventive measures, healthy lifestyle practices, early warning signs of heart attacks, and the importance of regular health check-ups. She encouraged participants to adopt healthy eating habits, exercise regularly, manage stress, and undergo periodic medical screenings.

A major highlight of the programme was the live Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) demonstration, during which Dr Shannon Fernandes and her team demonstrated the correct techniques to respond effectively during cardiac emergencies. Participants learned how immediate CPR can significantly improve a person’s chances of survival before professional medical assistance arrives.
The interactive session provided parishioners with an opportunity to clarify their doubts regarding heart health, blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, and emergency response, making the programme both informative and practical.
Dr Sr Saritha D’Cunha, Convenor of the Health Commission, welcomed the gathering, while Fr Valerian Fernandes led the opening prayer.
Among those present were Aldrin Vaz, Coordinator of the Parish Pastoral 21 Commissions; Cyril Rosario, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council; and Ida Furtado, Secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Sr Reshma D’Souza, who expressed gratitude to Dr Shannon Fernandes for sharing her valuable expertise and thanked all the parishioners for their enthusiastic participation. The programme was compered by Doreen D’Souza.
