City Deanery Jeevan Disha Camp 2025: “Ignite Your Path” Inspires Young Minds
Mangaluru, 28 September 2025: The City Deanery Jeevan Disha Camp 2025 for 7th standard students was held with great enthusiasm on Sunday, 28th September at St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor. The camp brought together 168 children from 10 parishes, accompanied by 14 animators, making a total of 182 participants.
The programme began with a warm welcome by the compere Mr. Pradeep Misquith. Dignitaries present on the dais included Rev. Fr. Jeevan Lobo (City Deanery Family Commission Director), Sr Jeeny (Holy Cross Congregation), Mr. J. R. Pais (Convenor, Family Commission – Vamanjoor Parish), Mr. Ranson Cutinho (Resource Person), and Mrs. Jannet (Vice-President, PPC Bajjodi Parish).
The dignitaries were welcomed with floral tributes by the animators. In a symbolic gesture, children joined them in the traditional lighting of the lamp, marking the formal inauguration of the camp. This was followed by an opening prayer led by Mr. J. R. Pais, who also read the Word of God, and the Prayer of the Faithful was offered by Mrs. Diana D’Souza and Mr. Alwyn Albuquerque.
Inaugural Address and Inspiring Sessions
In his inaugural address, Rev. Fr. Jeevan Lobo spoke about the three stages of preparation in life—remote, proximate, and immediate—encouraging the students to embrace discipline, faith, and self-awareness from a young age. He urged them to set meaningful goals, make wise choices, and build a strong moral foundation.
The first session, led by Mr. Ashton D’Souza, focused on personality development. He emphasized communication, positive body language, and self-confidence. Through interactive activities, he highlighted the value of teamwork, empathy, and leadership.
In the second session, Mr. Ranson Cutinho addressed family relationships and the importance of prayer peer groups. He encouraged open communication, mutual respect, and daily prayer within families. He also highlighted how prayer groups can help children grow in faith and foster a sense of belonging.
Ms. Melrida Rodrigues conducted the third session on good and bad habits, urging students to reflect on their daily choices. Using real-life examples, she stressed values like honesty, punctuality, and kindness, and the role of self-discipline in shaping strong character.
The final session by Mr. Avith was titled “Knowing Me”, guiding students to discover their unique talents and the power of positive thinking. Through engaging activities, he helped them develop confidence, set personal goals, and stay optimistic even when faced with challenges.
Spiritual Nourishment and Fun
The camp included a Eucharistic Celebration presided over by Rev. Fr. Alwyn Richard D’Souza, Director of the Family Life Centre. In his homily, he reflected on the Gospel story of the Rich Man and Lazarus, urging children to live with compassion, humility, and kindness.
After a shared lunch, the students enjoyed interactive games, fostering teamwork, friendship, and joyful bonding.
Conclusion and Closing Ceremony
The camp concluded with a heartfelt evaluation by V. Rev. Fr. James D’Souza, Vicar Forane of the City Deanery, who appreciated the organizers and animators for their dedication. He encouraged the children to practice the values learned, live a prayerful life, and become witnesses of Christ in their families and communities.
Sr. Jeeny, of the Holy Cross Congregation, congratulated Fr. James and Fr. Alwyn for organizing such a meaningful and spiritually enriching camp. She urged the children to live the lessons daily, drawing closer to God and becoming inspirations to others.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Pradeep Misquith, who had gracefully compered the entire day. A thanksgiving hymn was sung, and ice cream was served, adding a sweet end to a day filled with learning, laughter, and spiritual growth.
