Free Eye Check-up Camp Held at Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte
Bikarnakatte, January 7, 2026: As part of the Annual Feast celebrations of the Infant Jesus, a free eye check-up camp was successfully organised at the Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte, on Wednesday, January 7. The camp commenced at 9.00 a.m. and witnessed an encouraging response from the local community.
The initiative was organised in association with the Carmel Jyothi Public Charitable Trust. A team of doctors from Dr Agarwal Eye Clinic, Mangaluru—comprising ophthalmologists Dr Krisma, Dr Vijitha, and Dr Mahesh, along with their supporting staff—conducted comprehensive eye examinations and recommended appropriate corrective measures. As part of the programme, 150 pairs of spectacles were distributed free of cost to beneficiaries diagnosed with vision problems, bringing visible relief and joy to many.
The camp was formally inaugurated by Rev. Fr Melwin D’Cunha, Superior of St Joseph’s Monastery, along with other dignitaries, by symbolically watering a plant, signifying care, growth, and service to humanity.
Rev. Fr William Miranda, Secretary of the Carmel Jyothi Public Charitable Trust, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the Trust’s ongoing social outreach initiatives. He emphasised its commitment to healthcare, education, and welfare programmes for the underprivileged.
The event was graced by Rev. Fr Stifan Perera, Director of the Infant Jesus Shrine, Mr Ronald Colaco, and Mrs Elsie from World Vision, who extended their support to the initiative. Around 150 people benefited from the eye screening camp.
Speaking on the occasion, the organisers also highlighted the extensive social service activities of the Carmel Jyothi Public Charitable Trust, which functions through its branches in Hoovina Hadagalli (Ballari), Jalguru in Davanagere district, and Kadaganchi in Kalaburagi district. The Trust regularly organises medical camps in villages and prisons, provides nutritious food to TB patients, conducts animal care camps, and undertakes various welfare-oriented initiatives.
The free eye check-up camp was widely appreciated by the beneficiaries and stood as a meaningful expression of the Shrine’s commitment to holistic service during the Annual Feast of the Infant Jesus.
