LCS Kindergarten Celebrates Van Mahotsav with Green Message
Mangaluru, July 7: The Kindergarten section of Lourdes Central School celebrated Van Mahotsav 2026 on Tuesday, July 7, under the theme “Green Vibes, Better Life,” inspiring children to develop a love for nature and understand the importance of planting and protecting trees.
The programme commenced with a prayer song by the KG choir, invoking God’s blessings and expressing gratitude for the beauty of nature. The KG 2 children welcomed Rev. Fr Johnson L. Sequeira, Principal; Mrs Anitha Thomas, Vice Principal; Ms Linet Pereira, Academic Coordinator; and the parents who attended the celebration. The significance of Van Mahotsav was explained by Master Tasmai Shetty and Master Yuvin Krishna of KG 2.
The Pre-KG children presented a lively dance performance, while the KG 1 and KG 2 students delighted the audience with an action song followed by a meaningful dance drama highlighting the importance of trees and environmental conservation.

Addressing the gathering, Rev. Fr Johnson L. Sequeira explained how a small sapling, when nurtured with care, grows into a mighty tree. Emphasising the need to protect and preserve nature, he encouraged the children to become responsible caretakers of the environment. The children then took a pledge to love and care for plants, water them regularly, and never harm them. He also appreciated the students for their impressive performances and congratulated the teachers for organising the programme successfully.
As part of the celebrations, a collage competition on the theme “Tree is Life” for KG 1 students and a fancy dress competition titled “Nature Inspired by Trees” were conducted on July 4. All the children participated enthusiastically, showcasing their creativity and environmental awareness.
As a symbolic gesture of commitment to nature, the Principal, along with the Vice Principal, teachers, and students, presented a sapling to the school.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks. Ms Andrea Coelho compered the event, which ended with a group photo session with the students.
