Mangaluru to Host Prestigious Mavericks Summer Nationals 2026 Bridge Championship
Mangaluru, May 28: The prestigious Mavericks Summer Nationals 2026, one of India’s premier bridge championships, will be held from June 4 to June 13, 2026, at the St. Sebastian Centenary Auditorium in Mangaluru.
The tournament is being organised by the Karavali Bridge Association, Mangaluru, under the aegis of the Bridge Federation of India and the Karnataka State Bridge Association.
The annual national championship is expected to attract around 450 participants from across India and abroad. Among the international participants are renowned players from Poland, including world champion Buras Krzysztof Jerzy, along with Dominic Filopowicz, Jakob Pathrehua, and Patrik Pathrehua.
Speaking at a press conference, the organisers stated that hosting the tournament has placed Mangaluru prominently on the bridge map of India and the world. They noted that the city’s excellent air and rail connectivity, coupled with its hospitality and delectable cuisine, made it an ideal venue for the national event.
Organising Secretary Derek Rego has made extensive arrangements to ensure the successful conduct of the championship.
Marjorie Texeira, President of the Karavali Bridge Association, said that bridge, regarded as a mind sport, has been played in Mangaluru for over 60 years. However, she expressed concern that the number of local players has reduced considerably as the younger generation has shown less interest in learning the game. She hoped that more youth from the city would take interest in bridge, especially since the sport is part of the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.
Others present at the press conference included Peter Pinto, Treasurer of the Association, and Winston D’Souza, Committee Member.
