Mount Carmel Educators Begin the New Academic Year with Inspiring Week of Learning and Enrichment

Mangaluru: The academic year 2026–2027 for the teaching staff of Mount Carmel Central School, Maryhill, commenced with great enthusiasm, spiritual fervour, and a renewed commitment to holistic education through a series of enriching staff development programmes organised by the school management.

The inaugural programme, held on 22 May 2026, began with a prayer service invoking God’s blessings upon the staff, students, and the institution. Principal Sr. Melissa warmly welcomed the staff and fondly acknowledged the dedicated service of former staff members whose contributions strengthened the growth of the institution.

Newly appointed staff members and coordinators were formally introduced and warmly welcomed by Principal Sr. Melissa, while Administrator Sr. Carissima greeted each of them with a rose as a gesture of welcome and fellowship.

Addressing the gathering, Sr. Carissima highlighted the history of the congregation and explained the unique stamp of Apostolic Carmel Education, rooted in spirituality, discipline, excellence, and holistic formation.

Sr. Melissa then oriented the staff to the vision and mission of the institution and the new curriculum policies of CBSE, including the latest Grade 9 three-language policy. This was followed by an insightful session by Tr. Leena Jose, who spoke on NEP 2020 and NCF, highlighting CBSE’s increasing focus on vocational and skill-based learning through programmes such as Kaushal Vikas for Grade 9 and Kaushal Bodh for Grades 6 to 8.

On 23 May, the Staff Development Programme, organised in collaboration with Goyal Brothers Prakashan, focused on professional enrichment for educators. Resource person Ms. Shalini Mishra from New Delhi conducted sessions on mind management, stress management, classroom excellence, and social-emotional learning. The sessions equipped teachers with practical strategies to maintain emotional balance and create supportive classroom environments.

Continuing the spirit of professional growth, a seminar on “Service Learning and Computational Thinking with Artificial Intelligence” was organised on 25 May. The session on Service Learning, conducted by Sr. Jovita Tellis A.C. and Tr. Rishel, highlighted the importance of experiential learning in nurturing empathy, leadership, and social responsibility among students.

The second session by Tr. Sunitha Singh focused on the newly introduced subject “Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence” and explored innovative ways of integrating technology-driven and interdisciplinary approaches into classroom teaching across subjects.

A significant seminar on “Safeguarding and Protection in Schools” was held on 26 May. Resource person Br. Wilfred D’Souza sensitively addressed issues related to child safety, exploitation, emotional wellbeing, and the ethical responsibilities of educators. Stressing vigilance, empathy, accountability, and confidentiality, he encouraged teachers to adopt proactive and compassionate approaches towards safeguarding children in schools.

On 27 May, a seminar by the CBSE Centre of Excellence, Bengaluru, was organised on the topic “Educating Parents About Education.” The sessions, jointly conducted by Ms. Sheela Balamurali, Principal of DPS Mangaluru, and Ms. Vandana Nayak of Manipal School, addressed contemporary educational concerns including student mental health, assessment reforms, Sustainable Development Goals, and career guidance.

The seminar encouraged educators to adopt holistic, learner-centred, and future-focused teaching practices.

On the same day, a special workshop for kindergarten educators of Mount Carmel Central School and Ladyhill ICSE School was conducted on the theme “Transforming Ordinary Classrooms into Vibrant Classrooms.” Resource person Miss Ujwala Krishnaraj conducted engaging sessions on puppetry, storytelling, playway methods, NEP 2020 goals, and joyful learning practices for early childhood education.

The interactive workshop provided teachers with practical ideas to make classrooms more child-centric, experiential, and vibrant.

The series of seminars and workshops proved highly enriching and inspiring for the teaching fraternity. Through reflective discussions, interactive sessions, and practical guidance, the programmes equipped educators with modern teaching strategies, emotional resilience, ethical awareness, and innovative approaches essential for nurturing responsible, confident, and compassionate learners in today’s evolving educational landscape.
