St Aloysius University holds Workshop on “Unboxing AI” for Dental PGs and Faculty
Mangaluru: St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru — The School of Engineering (SOE), in collaboration with the Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCODS), Mangalore, organized a one-day workshop titled “Unboxing AI” at Sanidhya Hall on the St Aloysius campus. The workshop was exclusively designed for postgraduate students and faculty members of MCODS, focusing on the integration of Artificial Intelligence in dental education, research, and clinical practice.
The workshop was inaugurated in the presence of distinguished dignitaries.
Dr Karthik Shetty, PG Coordinator, MCODS, highlighted the urgent need for engineering and medical institutions to break traditional barriers and collaborate to develop innovative solutions to societal challenges.
Dr Srikanth, Associate Dean, MCODS, emphasized the importance of keeping pace with rapid advancements in AI, noting that adapting to these technologies is essential for professionals to remain relevant.
In his presidential address, Rev. Dr Melwyn D’Cunha SJ, Pro Vice Chancellor, St Aloysius University, stressed the values of empathy, continuous learning, and adaptability while embracing transformative technologies like AI.
Dr S. Ruban, Dean, School of Engineering, welcomed the gathering,
Mr Siraj, Chair of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), proposed the vote of thanks, and
Mr Glenson Toney, Assistant Dean, SOE, compered the event.
Following the inaugural ceremony, Dr S. Ruban delivered a session titled “Why, How and When to Use AI: A Dental Perspective”, offering valuable insights into practical and emerging AI applications in dental healthcare.
Hands-on training sessions were later conducted at the JW Lab, Maffei Block.
Mr Glenson Toney led an engaging workshop on building AI chatbots and using AI tools for image classification. Participants created their own personalized chatbots, and the top five models were recognized for creativity and performance.
Mr Siraj then delivered a session on “AI-Driven Research: Working Smarter, Not Harder”, introducing participants to advanced AI tools for literature search, data analysis, and scientific writing—aimed at enhancing research efficiency, productivity, and accuracy.
The workshop was organized under the ongoing MoU between St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) and the Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCODS), reaffirming the commitment of both institutions to interdisciplinary collaboration and promoting AI literacy in healthcare education.
