Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh Holds Workshop on Government Schemes for Minorities
Mangaluru: The Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh (R) organized a meaningful workshop focused on educating the Christian community about various government schemes and facilities available to minority communities. The event saw the presence of key dignitaries and stakeholders committed to community upliftment.
Inaugurating the workshop, Sri Ivan Dsouza, MLC, stressed the importance of availing government welfare schemes. “Christians should come forward and visit government offices to access the facilities provided by our government. Sadly, we show little interest in this and then blame our community,” he stated. He further highlighted that Christians, unlike other minority groups, often remain unaware of the wide range of schemes available, particularly in areas like education, health, entrepreneurship, and housing.
Mr. Godwin Pinto, Samudaya Abhirudhi Convener of the Central Committee, urged Catholic Sabha members to actively disseminate information about such schemes to potential beneficiaries. He also requested Sri Ivan Dsouza to advocate for job reservations and government work opportunities for the Christian community.

A special highlight of the event was the inauguration of a donation box for the Catholic Sabha’s Golden Jubilee building fund. Sri Ivan Dsouza made a generous contribution and symbolically handed over the key to Mr. Walter Dsouza, Convenor of the Building Committee, and Mr. Denis Dsilva, Joint Convenor.
The workshop featured informative sessions by Mr. Nazir from the Minority Department and Mr. Jagadish from the Karnataka Minority Development Corporation, who explained in detail the various facilities and schemes available to minority communities.
The program began with a warm welcome by Mr. Santosh Dsouza and concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Wilma Monteiro. The event was well-coordinated and compered by Mr. Lawrence, ensuring its smooth execution.
