St Joseph’s University Students Complete AI/ML Internship at COMEDKARES Innovation Hub
Bengaluru: Fifty postgraduate students from St Joseph’s University (SJU), Bengaluru, successfully completed a month-long Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) internship conducted at the COMEDKARES Innovation Hub on Mysore Road, gaining valuable industry-oriented experience through hands-on learning and collaborative projects.
The internship, held during June and July 2026, was designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world industry applications. The programme combined human-centred design thinking, virtual prototyping, and digital sketching with an intensive curriculum in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
A total of 50 students participated in the programme, including 27 students from MSc Big Data Analytics, 20 from the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programme, and three from MSc Computer Science. They progressed through four structured phases of learning, beginning with problem identification and empathy mapping before advancing to the development of sophisticated machine learning models.

The participants were divided into 11 project teams. During the fourth week, they learned and implemented advanced ensemble learning techniques, including Ensemble Methods, Gradient Boosting, and XGBoost, integrating these models into their respective project pipelines. The final week focused on improving model stability, preparing comprehensive project documentation, conducting mock presentations, and showcasing the completed projects.
Throughout the internship, students demonstrated strong teamwork, technical competence, and collaborative problem-solving. Their progress was documented through project charters, Jupyter notebooks, Git repositories, Onshape CAD models, Figma wireframes, and PrepIndia progress logs, reflecting their systematic learning and development.
The programme concluded with a final project showcase, during which each team presented interactive AI/ML solutions developed during the internship. The projects highlighted the students’ readiness to take on industry-level roles in data science, artificial intelligence, and software engineering.
The valedictory programme was attended by Mr Muurulidhar, Founder and CEO of Era Foundation Innovation Center; Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, Director, School of Information Technology, St Joseph’s University; Dr Bojamma, Dean, School of Information Technology; and Dr Prasanthi, Head of the Department of Computer Science, who appreciated the students’ commitment and the successful completion of the internship.
