Fun-Filled Learning Activities Enhance Skills of UKG Students at Mount Carmel Central School
Mangaluru: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru, organized a series of engaging and interactive learning activities for its UKG students, making education both enjoyable and meaningful through hands-on and play-based experiences.
The activities were designed to strengthen children’s understanding of mathematical concepts, language skills, and family values while encouraging active participation and experiential learning.
One of the highlights was the “Fun with Numbers – Number Value and Place Value” activity, which introduced children to numbers from 1 to 20 in an engaging manner. Students learned the concepts of ones and tens through colouring exercises, matching games, number tree activities, and hands-on learning using bottles and straws to represent two-digit numbers. Creative craft activities further helped them understand place value, particularly the concept that 20 is equal to two tens.
The “Vowels and Consonants” activity introduced children to the fundamentals of the English language. Through songs, games, picture cards, word-sorting exercises, and interactive discussions, students learned that the English alphabet consists of 26 letters, including five vowels—A, E, I, O, and U—and 21 consonants. The activity enhanced letter recognition skills and laid a strong foundation for reading and language development.

Another engaging session, “My Family,” helped children understand the importance of family members and their roles. Through discussions, family charts, picture cards, and sharing experiences about their own families, students learned to appreciate the love, care, and support they receive at home. The activity also promoted communication skills, social interaction, and respect for family values.
The experiential learning sessions provided children with opportunities to improve their communication abilities, letter recognition, counting skills, one-to-one interaction, and conceptual understanding. By combining education with fun and creativity, the activities made learning memorable and enjoyable for the young learners.
The initiative reflects Mount Carmel Central School’s commitment to fostering holistic development and creating a positive learning environment where children learn through exploration, participation, and discovery.
